Winter Formal- Saturday, February 21, 2015
Formal will be on Saturday, February 21st from 7-10pm.  Tickets go on sale this Friday! Guest passes can be picked up in Student Services or can be downloaded from our website.  Guest passes are due on February 6th.

CAHSEE – Sophomores – only 6 days before the California High School Exit Exam – Are you ready?  10th grade students your English Teachers will inform you of your test location this week.  Please make sure to note your location in your datebook or personal calendar so you know where to report on testing days.

A Message from Ms. Shiu regarding:  African American Students’ Day at Hewlett Packard
If you are interested in attending African American Students’ Day at Hewlett Packard, please see Ms. Shiu for a packet.  You must have at least a 2.0 GPA and complete the field trip packet.  Each school in the district is limited to 5 spots.  First come, first served. This is a great opportunity to look at job opportunities within the company. 

A Message from Mr. Boise
This Friday is Course Preview day which provides you an opportunity to learn more about classes you may choose to take next year. During Tutorial today, all 9th, 10th and 11th graders will identify course presentations they are interested in attending. Then, on Friday course previews will occur instead of Tutorial for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders. During course previews 12th grade students will go the gym for the senior panoramic photo and important spring semester announcements. We will be on a slightly modified schedule for Course Preview day, please check the website or signs in your teachers' classrooms for details.

CSF starts Tuesday, January 20th.  Applications can be picked up in Mrs. Torres office, (Counseling Office).  Last day to turn in applications is Saturday, January 31, 2015.

Every year The San Mateo Rotary Club offers our students a generous scholarship! Seniors who will be attending a 2 year community college or a 4 year university are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. Scholarships are based on academics, general citizenship and financial need. Girls Soccer – Half Moon Bay at Half Moon Bay - V 3:00; JV 5:30 (Release V-1:45)

Attention Baseball Players: A Message from Head Coach - Nick Sanzeri:
Baseball tryouts begin Monday, February 2 through February 4, afterschool. All players trying out for JV will meet by the batting cages. All players trying out for Varsity will meet in the dugout on the main baseball field. Your physical must be done and medical clearance turned in. Players who are not medically cleared cannot tryout.   Any winter sport athletes please contact the coach and will be given their 3 day tryout after the winter season is over.

A Message from Matt the Trainer:
Swimmers’ must all complete their concussion testing on this Friday the January 30, after school in the C lab in order to play this season.  Track & Field will be on Tuesday, February 2, 2015.

Track and Field Info:
All prospective track & field athletes come to the track by 3:30 on Monday, Feb 2nd. There is no tryout period for Track &Field.  All athletes are welcome! Contact Mr. Riley for questions.

Softball Tryouts Info:
Softball tryouts start next week. Meet on the softball field Monday, Feb 2nd at 3:30 - 5.

Get on the field and throw the ball before try outs! Contact -Ms. De Rosa with questions.

Swim Team Info
Practice begins on Monday, February 2 at 3:30. Be sure to be cleared from the health office and come prepared with a swimsuit, swim cap, goggles and a towel. Any questions see Ms. Parodi.

Boys Volleyball Info:
Boys Volleyball tryouts and clinic starts this Friday in the small gym at 5:00pm.  Everyone is welcome!

WINTER MUSICAL TICKETS ON SALE NOW!  Get your tickets today at Lunch for $5!
Our winter musical, URINETOWN, opens this Friday, Jan. 30, and plays for the next two weekends. Tickets are on sale in the Quad during lunch today and tomorrow this week and next week and at the PAC box office before each show. Students may purchase unreserved seats for $5.00 by showing their student I.D. card. Regular reserved seating costs $15 for students/seniors and $20 for adults. Come support SMHS Performing Arts at this hilarious musical!

PROJECT NUMBER ONE: The SMHS Drama department is joining forces with the AP Environmental Science class on a project that will conserve thousands of gallons of water a year!  Project Number One will raise funds to replace every urinal at our school with modern waterless facilities.  It’s the (waterless) wave of the future, folks, and San Mateo High is going to be there first!  Check out the display table in the lobby during every performance of URINETOWN and please bring your dollars and change to donate. Help us be flush with funds so we can end flushing at Mateo! Contact Mr. Friedman/Appleman with questions.

Middle College is still accepting Fall 2015 applications. Middle College is a high school program at College of San Mateo. The application deadline is March 25. Contact your guidance counselor for more information.
