February is Black History Month! Today, we are featuring a couple of celebrated Black Americans:

Harold Amos (September 7, 1918 – February 26, 2003) was a microbiologist and professor. He taught at Harvard Medical School for nearly fifty years and was the first African-American department chair of the school. He also inspired hundreds of minorities to become medical doctors.

Patricia Era Bath (born November 4, 1942 in the Harlem neighborhood of ManhattanNew York City) is an American ophthalmologistinventor and academic. She has broken ground for women and African Americans in a number of areas.

Health Week
Come out to the spirit lawn to see the SMHS Teacher Band perform and join our fruit eating contest.

Come Tonight and listen to the talented students of the BHS & SMHS Choirs perform Broadway, Hollywood and Jazz Standards from the Golden Age of Pop, featuring Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, & Cole Porter, in the February Choir Concert "FASCINATING RHYTHM," under the direction of Shawn Reifschneider.  7 pm at the SMHS PAC. Tickets are $10 for Adults & $5 for Students & Seniors.

The Jennifer Nathan Travel Scholarship
Attention sophomores and juniors, interested in earning a grant to travel the globe this summer? See the world for free?!  Then come apply for the Jennifer Nathan Travel Scholarship!  Pick up an application in the Career Center. Applications are due on Friday, February 24th.

Teen Poster Contest
Teen Mental Health Awareness is having a poster contest. Your poster will be displayed in the community and there will be a $70 prize for the winner. Submit your poster by Saturday, February 25th    See http://smcl.org/teen-mental-helth-poster-contest/

Interested in running for student council? Sign up for a position in the leadership room A001, decisions due Monday, February 27th. 

Mandatory Meeting for Candidates
All Candidates interested in running for student council must come to the Mandatory Meeting, Monday, February 27th @ lunch in MPR.  Finish you election packets!

Senior Grad Night Fundraiser - Dinner Box
Please purchase a Dinner Box on Monday, 2/27/17 from 5-8pm at the Spirit Lawn and PAC before the mandatory Spring Sports/Sportsmanship Meeting.  Your choice of delicious Asian or Italian Dinner, served with Side Salad, Dessert and Water, all for a $10.00 donation.  Class of 2017 Seniors and Families thank you for your support!

Spring Sportsmanship Meeting
Come on Monday, February 27th at 6:30pm in the Performing Arts Center. All athletes are required to attend the meeting along with a parent or guardian. Individual team meetings will be following the general meeting. 

Reminder for Students taking AP Exams
Monday, Feb. 27 is the last day to pay for AP Exams

Students who are in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program can purchase discounted SamTrans bus tickets for the month of March. Please see Mrs. Hickey in the Health Office, A116.
