-        Introductions completed; newly elected Freshmen Class Council Members

SMHS Site Council By-Laws                                                  3:40-3:50pm

-        Ms. Shiu reviews Co-Chair and Secretary roles; no questions/concerns

Election of Officers                                                               3:50-4:00pm

-        Motion (Chen) to make Senior Class Council Representatives the Co-Chairs for Site Council, second by Burke

SPSA (Single Plan for Student Achievement)                        4:00-4:10pm

-        Ms. Shiu reviews the purpose and approval process for the SPSA

WASC Update                                                                       4:10-4:30pm

-        Ms. Shiu reviews the purpose of accreditation and the overall WASC process

-        Group reviews and annotates the School Profile from the previous WASC document (2012-13)

-        Group noted a variety of items after reading, including:

  • Questions about new funding mechanisms (LCAP/LCFF)
  • School’s work to create a more gender inclusive environment
  • Technology at the school has increased, in quantity and quality (boards, carts, etc.)
  • Does not include AVID – which is currently 7 sections of the schedule
  • Clarification on API – which testing still exists and which has been phased out
  • A-G completion and increasing the student rate remains a focus, some improvement made though
  • Question on how many clubs exist – approximately over 50 currently
  • Suggestion made to expand and revise the description of the current ELD program
  • Proposal to update staffing with new personnel (e.g. Wellness Counselors, Campus Aides, etc.)
  • Suggestion to include restorative justice practices, addition of AP Spanish Literature
  • Additions: M Building modernization, Math Team and their success, PERK Cards, You Deserve a Break, PBS School, Increase of SPED Integration (CT classes)
  • Updating various parent groups and PIC
  • Tutorial: Football Tutorial, AVID priority

-        9th:  Setup Group Chat and Emails for Contacts

-        10th: Sale of Churros for International Club Fair; Spirit Week Prep; Possible Fundraiser @ Cream

-        11th: Spirit Week Paper Prepped, Food Fair Plans

-        12th: Burger feed made a few hundred dollars, Food Fair sales as well, T-Shirts being looked into, and Spirit Week Prep

-        Counseling: Letters of Rec & College Applications, Professional Speaker’s Day on 10/28 (Modified Schedule), Job Opportunity Visits

-        Gelb: Safety Drills Begin Next Week

-        Abernathy: BSU organizing food support event – interested in getting a few Student Leadership volunteers to participate

-        Boise: PSAT on 10/19 (Modified Schedule)
