On Friday, February 3rd Course Preview Day will take place during Tutorial.
Course Preview Day is an opportunity for 9th -11th grade students to learn about course choices, prior to working with their counselor on course requests for the following school year. During the morning of February 3rd there will be no Tutorial for 9th -11th grade students, as it will be replaced by course previews. However, prior to course previews, all students will report to their Home Tutorial for attendance purposes, then previews will begin. Attendance will be taken during each preview and participation is mandatory. Information about Course Preview Day will be provided to your Tutorial on Wednesday, February 1st, so that you can plan your classroom visits. We will be on a slightly modified bell schedule that day which can be found on the school website and schoolloop. During Course Preview Day, seniors will attend Tutorial.
Attention sophomores and juniors,
Today, we will have a PSAT scores presentation in the biotech conference room during tutorial. If you took the PSAT and want to learn about what your scores mean, how they play into the college admissions process, and tips and advice on taking the SAT and the ACT, then be sure to stop by this session. Come See SMHS’ Production of The Music Man January 27th - February 5th
We are proud to present the classic Tony-Award winning musical about a charismatic con artist named Harold Hill, who transforms a sour Iowa town into a place full of laughter, love and music. Featuring one of the best musical scores of them all, including 76 Trombones, Ya Got Trouble, Goodnight, My Someone and Till There Was You, The Music Man is the perfect destination for the whole family. featuring over 100 bearcats in the cast, crew, and marching band. Performances this weekend and next; Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm., Sundays at 2pm.
Tickets are available online at smhsdrama.org and this Thursday and Friday in the quad at lunch. Adults: $20 Seniors/Students $15 Student Special: $5 general seating (in student only section) available at the door or at lunch ticket sales

Jobs for Youth Workshop
Students, you are invited to attend the "Jobs for Youth Workshop" Today, after school in the Career Center. You will learn how to complete a job application, interviewing skills and more. If you attend this workshop, you will have access to a full listing of job opportunities. Spaces are limited so please come to the Career Center & sign-up with Mrs. Kane. The workshop will start at 2:30 pm and will end by 3:30 pm. There will be free Pizza, Drinks and prizes.
Boys Golf Meeting
There will be an important Boy's golf meeting on Tomorrow, January 26, at lunch in the Biotech lab. All interested players are encouraged to attend. Please contact Mr. Ikeda if you are new to the golf program.
Attention AP Students
All students attending the AP Assembly on Friday must check-in with their Tutorial teacher for attendance purposes, listen to the announcements, and then should be sent to the Main Gym for the Assembly. Tutorial Teachers please do not release students for the AP Assembly until after the announcements have been read.
Formal is February 11th
Guest passes are available online and are due Friday, January 27th. Clearance forms are also available in Student Services.
Leadership Summit 2017

Anyone interested in trying out for the San Mateo Baseball team, Try-outs will be held for both Varsity and JV starting Monday, January 30th thru Friday Feb. 3rd at 3:15 pm.

Swim Team Info
Just a reminder; swim team starts on Monday, January 30th, 3:30pm on the pool deck. The first day will be suit sizing, please come even if you are not cleared yet, this is the only suit sizing day. You will need to get sized so that we can order you a team suit. Please remember to get cleared through the health office. Any questions please see Ms. Parodi, Ms. Malone or Mr. Hanson. See you all on Monday at the pool!
Students who Volunteer
IF you want to have your volunteer hours tracked, please enter your hours on the online community service form. You can find this form on the SMHS website on the College and Career Center Tab. Click on “Community Service” and the online form is there. Hours for the Fall Semester are due Tuesday, January 31st. IF you have any question, please see Mrs. Kane in the Career Center.
Sign up for CSF
Interested in signing up for CSF, aka the California Scholarship Federation? Applications are now open. Pick up a copy of the application in the Career Center. Your application is due Tuesday, January 31st at 3:30 p.m. in the Career Center, with no exceptions. Your application must include: a $5 CSF fee and a report card or copy of your transcript with your fall grades.
Auditions for the Spring Play
On Wednesday, February 8, we will hold auditions for the spring play, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST after school in the MPR. Sign up and get an audition form in the classroom. All actors will read from the script, so you don't need to prepare anything, but it might be helpful to read the script beforehand. See Mr. Friedman if you have any questions.
