Review of School Safety Plan                                                                        4:15-4:30pm

Mr. McKenzie asked if everyone received and reviewed the School Safety Plan that was emailed to Site Council on Friday.  He went on to explain that the Safety Plan is not only a report on school safety, but is a report on school climate.  Students should have a safe learning environment which includes not only being physically safe, but socially and emotionally.  He also stated that the School Safety Plan supports the school’s three WASC Goals: Development of Career and Vocational Goals, Critical Thinking and Closing the Achievement Gap.  The Big 5 is a comprehensive safety plan for all public agencies to use the same language and protocols when dealing with emergencies.  In the future the administration is planning a drill during a passing period, lunch or brunch.  When asked if students knew where to go, most did not.  (Class prior to the drill.)  Ms. Scanlon asked about substitutes knowing the school’s procedures and if they receive training.  Subs are given packets when they check in of the things they are to do in case of an emergency.  They are also told when they check in if there will be a drill that day.

Mr. McKenzie asked for a motion to approve.  Motion was made by J. Scanlon and seconded by N. Kruse.
